How Much Does Hypnotherapy Cost In The UK (2026 Price Guide)
How much does hypnotherapy cost in the UK?
Updated October 2026
Hypnotherapy in the UK typically costs between £50 and £300 per session, depending on the practitioner’s experience and the kind of work involved.
I work in programmes rather than single sessions: £495 for straightforward work such as phobias, and £745 for everything else. Everything starts with a £45 Consultation, credited in full if you go ahead.
| Level | Typical price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Newly qualified | £50–£70 per session | General techniques. Can suit simple issues with no significant history. |
| Standard practitioner | £70–£95 per session | Where most of the market sits. A broad range of issues, booked session by session. |
| Experienced specialist | £95–£150 per session | Specialist training and more targeted, clinically informed work. |
| Specialist programmes | £150–£300+ per session, or programme pricing | Focused on resolving the pattern behind the problem, delivered as a structured process. |
Why Prices Vary
1. How Much Work Is Needed
A single fear with a clear trigger can often move quickly. Anxiety, overthinking and low confidence are usually layered: beliefs, emotional habits and protective patterns built up over years.
So the useful question isn’t “What does one session cost?” It’s “How much work will change this properly?”
2. What Kind Of Work Is Being Done
Some hypnotherapy aims to help you feel calmer: relaxation, a confidence boost, getting through a specific situation. That can be useful.
Other work goes after the pattern keeping the problem in place. Then you’re paying for the depth and permanence of the change, not just the hour.
3. How The Work Is Structured
Some practitioners offer standalone sessions. You book, see how you feel, and decide whether to return. For simple issues, that can work.
Deeper change happens in sequence, with each session building on the last. You wouldn’t ask a surgeon to operate by the hour, then stop and ask whether to carry on. Lasting change works the same way.
What does it really cost?
Before the number, think about time.
How much of your day goes to dread, overthinking or avoiding things? What would it be worth to have that time back?
Every session that helped a little, then stopped helping, was a cost. So is every year you’ve suffered with this.

How to choose a hypnotherapist
Price and location are where most people start. These questions tell you more:
Is the work aimed at the symptom, or the pattern beneath it? Feeling better in the moment isn’t the same as changing what causes the problem.
Is there a defined process? A good practitioner can tell you how the work will progress and roughly how long it will take.
Do they specialise? Treating every issue that walks through the door isn’t the same as deep expertise in one area.
Are they properly accredited? Hypnotherapy has no protected title, so look for membership of a recognised register such as the GHR or CNHC.
Does their approach fit what you want? Choose someone whose way of working matches the change you’re after.
Quick questions
Is there a free consultation? No. The Consultation is a real working session, and the £45 is credited in full to your programme.
Can I pay session by session? I work in programmes so the job gets finished properly. Returning clients can book £120 top-up sessions.
Do you offer payment plans? Yes. Programmes can be split into two or three equal instalments.
Is hypnotherapy available on the NHS? Only in limited cases, such as some IBS services. Most people see a private practitioner.
