Hypnotherapy for Health Anxiety
Work that reaches the root — not another reassurance cycle
Hypnotherapy for Health Anxiety
The tests come back clear. The doctor says there's nothing wrong. And yet.
The checking continues. The monitoring doesn’t stop. The what-ifs keep arriving — about the symptom you noticed this morning, the one from last week that still doesn’t feel quite right, the thing you’ve been Googling at 2am even though you know it won’t help.
Health anxiety isn’t hypochondria. It isn’t weakness or irrationality. It’s an intelligent protective system that has learned to treat uncertainty as danger — and has got stuck there.
Understanding that doesn’t stop it. And reassurance, however kindly given, rarely does either. You probably already know this. You’ve been reassured many times.
What shifts health anxiety is working at the level where it was built — not managing the checking behaviour, not challenging the thoughts, but changing the underlying position that generates both.
That’s what this work does.
What Health Anxiety Actually Looks Like
Health anxiety rarely looks the way people imagine it does from the outside. It’s not dramatic. It’s quiet, persistent, and exhausting.
It’s waking up with a sense of dread before you’ve remembered why. It’s the compulsion to check — your body, your symptoms, the internet — that brings momentary relief and then makes everything worse. It’s the fear that the doctor might have missed something, or that they’re getting quietly frustrated with you, or that this time it might actually be something.
It’s not being able to go on holiday without mapping out the nearest hospital. It’s the relationships quietly strained by the worry you’re carrying. It’s the constant background noise of a mind that cannot stand down.
If any of that sounds familiar — not because it’s generic, but because it’s specific — that’s because I’ve worked with health anxiety for twelve years and I know exactly what it looks like from the inside.
You are not going mad. Your mind is doing what minds do when they’ve learned that the body is dangerous — monitoring relentlessly, interpreting every sensation as a possible threat. It formed for a reason. And it can be changed.
What Changes
When the work reaches the root of health anxiety, the shift is not subtle. Clients describe:
The checking stopping — not through willpower, but because the compulsion simply isn’t there anymore.
Waking up without the morning dread that’s been there for so long it started to feel like personality.
Being able to sit with a physical sensation without immediately needing to know what it means.
Losing the compulsion to visit Doctor Google — and finding, when they do occasionally check, that it doesn’t spiral the way it used to.
Going on holiday without planning the route to the nearest hospital.
The relationship with their body becoming something closer to neutral — not fearless, just no longer constantly braced.
These aren’t promises. They’re what people report when the underlying position shifts rather than when the symptoms get managed.
How It Works
Everything begins with a Mapping Session — 40 minutes at £97.
In that session I identify exactly what’s driving the pattern — where the monitoring started, what it’s been protecting, and what the most direct route through it looks like. Most clients leave with more clarity about their health anxiety than they’ve had from any other appointment.
From there, the right programme becomes clear. Health anxiety typically falls within either the Clear programme — one specific, clearly defined piece of work with a point of completion. Some clients with more complex presentations move into Freedom.
I work in programmes, not open-ended weekly sessions. There is a direction and a point at which the work is done.
The Mapping Session
The Mapping Session Is Not A Consultation
Most practitioners offer a free initial consultation. It’s a conversion tool, masquerading as a conversation — usually about your history, your symptoms, whether you feel comfortable. It’s designed to end with a booking.
The Map Session is something else entirely.
In 40 minutes, we map the precise internal architecture of what’s been running your patterns — where it formed, how it’s structured, why it’s persisted despite everything you’ve already tried. Not in vague terms. In specific, accurate detail that will feel more like being read than assessed.
Most clients leave that session having already experienced a shift — not because the work is done, but because being genuinely seen and understood at that level is itself unusual. Many tell me afterwards that the Map Session alone was worth more than months of other therapy.
The £97 isn’t an entry fee. It’s the first piece of work.
What happens after that is a conversation — not a sales conversation, but an honest one about what the right next step looks like for you specifically. Sometimes that’s one of my programmes. Sometimes it’s something else entirely. I’ll tell you either way.
Not Sure If This Is Right For You?
If you’ve read this page and something in it feels accurate — the specificity of it, the way it describes what you’re actually experiencing — that recognition is worth paying attention to.
The Mapping Session will tell us both whether this is the right fit. If it isn’t, I’ll tell you.
If you’d like to understand the full shape of the work before you decide, that’s entirely reasonable. See what’s available, what each programme involves, and what kind of commitment you’d be making.
